Making Contact

1
We like to welcome the children in calmly each morning so we would prefer if you could wait until after school if you need to talk to us.
1
Please pass on any messages to the Teaching Assistants on the doors in the morning and they will pass it on to the relevant teacher. We will contact you or catch up with you at the end of the day.
1
If you want to talk to the teacher we are very happy for you to catch us at the end of the day. But please can you wait until we have safely seen the rest of the class out.

Home Learning Grid

1
At the beginning of each term we will send home a home learning grid in your child’s home learning book. Please choose an activity from the grid to complete with your child each week.
1
This needs to be given in on Thursday each week.
1
Our new marking policy means homework will be marked with 1,2 or 3 stars.
1
X1 star is good and equals one house point.
1
X2 stars is great and equals two house points.
1
X3 stars is fabulous and equals three house points.

Helping in the Classroom

1
Please let us know if you would like to come in to help in the classroom.
1
You may be asked to work with small groups, listen to readers or help with classroom preparation. Whatever it is we would be very grateful!
1
You will need to be DBS checked before you can start. Please ask at the office for a form.
1
You will need a DBS if you hope to join us on a school trip too.
1
You may like to get involved with our Forest School.

Phonic Screening

1
In June the children will undertake a phonic screening.
1
The phonic screen tests the children’s knowledge of segmenting and blending.
1
They will be shown 40 real and nonsense words and be asked to read them.
1
For the past three years the pass mark has been 32 out of 40.
1
We will hold a meeting regarding the Phonic Screening.

Year 1 Class Rules and Learning Partners

The children in each class have agreed some class rules. This helps them to keep their name on the ‘green’ area of the class behaviour chart (green is good!) Through good behaviour, cooperation and effort, the children can earn house points, which will be counted across the whole school each week. Look out for silver or gold slips that your child might bring home, this is to let you know that they have moved their name on the silver or gold area of the behaviour chart and have really impressed us!

Growth Mindset and Learning Powers

A growth mindset thinking can result in:

1
A love of learning and self-improvement.
1
Wanting to be challenged.
1
A willingness to work.
1
A willingness to apply effort and practice.
1
Learning from mistakes and efforts.
1
Being self-motivated.

Our whole school learning power for the autumn term is Engagement and our character that represents that learning behaviour is the wide-eyed owl, called Barney.
